One of the great things about living near London is that when you pay a visit to the centre you can wander around and see all sorts of things that you would be hard-pressed to find so close at hand, except in a few of the great cities of the world. So in a holiday stroll with my children we took in a film at the BFI South Bank (see separate entry on "The Passenger"); the Wallace Collection, with its impressive display of arms and armour, plus paintings including the famous "Laughing Cavalier"; and the Atlas Gallery, a small private gallery, just off Baker Street, where we saw an exhibition of pictures, mostly of the Rocky Mountains, by the photographer, Ansel Adams. I was surprised now small many of the photos were: iconic images of beautiful mountains but rather modest to look at; and the prices they were on sale for were incredible, even if they were signed prints, e.g. the picture of Mount Williamson you can see in the photo of the catalogue I attached was available for a cool $28,000. Not in my budget I am afraid.
